Working here
Small team. Real systems. Short distance between an idea and seeing it work.
The work
We build autonomous drone systems that have to work in the real world. That brings together aircraft, software, control, sensing, simulation, design and operations.
The interesting problems are usually between those disciplines. Something developed in software eventually has to survive contact with an aircraft, a radio link and the weather.
That is where most of our work starts.
Problems without neat boundaries
We work on autonomous flight, swarm systems, positioning, communications, simulation, aircraft design and the infrastructure needed to operate many aircraft together.
Some problems are software problems. Some are aerospace problems. Quite a few turn out to be both.
We do not expect one person to know all of it. We do expect people to be interested in what happens either side of their own discipline.
It has to work
Flying systems are unforgiving. Something that works on a screen is only useful if it still works when it leaves the ground.
That shapes how we build. We test early, prove what we can on the ground, fly often and learn quickly. There is a strong bias towards making things rather than talking about making them.
Mixed disciplines, one team
Software engineers, drone engineers, researchers, designers and operators work closely together. Problems are rarely handed from one department to another.
You might spend the morning working through a technical problem and the afternoon watching the result fly.
Early enough to shape it
A lot of what we are building has not been built before, and the way we work is still evolving with it.
People who join now have the opportunity to shape both the technology and the company around it. That also means being comfortable when the answer is not obvious and the route to it has not already been mapped out.
What we look for
We care about what you can do, how you think and what you want to build, not simply whether your CV matches a job title.
We like people who are curious, practical and comfortable working across boundaries. People who are straight about what they know, equally straight about what they do not, and willing to find out.
We hire across engineering, research, creative and production. If your background does not fit neatly into one of those boxes, that is not necessarily a problem.
Where
Our base is at Future Space, UWE North Gate in Bristol. Testing, trials and live projects take us further afield.
